My Trip to Google Ann Arbor
Google Ann Arbor hosted a tour for EMU students this last Friday, March 8th. It was led by three EMU alumnis, Eric Wortman, Angelina Miller and Ehab Shalabi. They were awesome and super friendly. With this post, I want to summarize my visit there and give some thoughts on the Google experience.
First off, it was so visually pleasing there. They had a cafe that had amazing smelling food. Everything was so organized, clean, modern. I do not have a photo that could describe what the environment was like. One of the first things you say walking in was purple balloons in honor of International Women's Day which was awesome.
There was less than the expected 60 students there, as there was a lot of seats open. From 9:30 till 11 there short 15-30 minute spotlights where different employees came and spoke to us about the different aspects of Google. Everyone who spoke was friendly and realistic about what it takes to get a job at Google.
Lauren Bennett, who does the recruiting, was honest about reading resumes and what to do and not to do. She also made everyone play like a rock paper scissors tournament and whoever won got a bag full of Google freebies. I was kinda jealous.
We then went on the tour and the building had so many cool sections. There was a red room that I think was for the software people, and it was like super quiet. I can't remember the exact wording but it was a really cool room and kinda trippy.
On the third floor, across from the coffee counter, there was a cool looking wall but turns out... it's actually a room! There is a secret door that opens to reveal a nice lounge room. I have a picture from the inside but not on the outside. The entrance has to be kept a secret.
The tour was awesome and going on these workplace tours always makes me excited about my career and future.
